The object of the game is to capture all of your opponent's pieces (you can also win if you block your opponent's lone pawn).

Each player starts with 5 different chess pieces (all of the standard chess pieces minus the king) placed randomly on either side of the board. You can move your pieces and capture your opponent's pieces according to the standard rules of chess. You can even capture pawns en passant.

Rooks

Rooks can move any number of empty squares vertically or horizontally. They can land on enemy pieces and capture them.

Bishops

Bishops can move any number of empty squares diagonally. They can land on enemy pieces and capture them.

Queens

Queens can move any number of empty squares vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. They can land on enemy pieces and capture them.

Knights

Knights can move 2 squares vertically and 1 square horizontally. Or they can move 2 squares horizontally and 1 square vertically. They can pass over other pieces. They can land on and capture enemy pieces, but not friendly ones.

Pawns

Pawns can move ahead 1 empty square. They can move ahead 2 squares on their first move.

Attacking

Pawns can capture enemies that are 1 square forward and 1 square adjacent.

En Passant

If an enemy pawn moves ahead 2 squares and lands adjacent to your pawn, then your pawn can capture the enemy pawn as though it had only moved ahead 1 square.

If a pawn reaches the last row, then it gets promoted. In a real chess game, you can choose which piece you would like to replace your pawn with. In Chesskers, your pawn is automatically promoted to a queen.
